Getting Back to Releasing Music

So, just yesterday I uploaded to Bandcamp a small EP of piano improvisations (One More Day). By the way, do you like the cover? I made it myself! I am also doing some experiments with singles on streaming platforms, in the hope to somehow get featured in a Spotify Official Playlist. So far, it still hasn't worked, but maybe I have too much of a "special sauce" in my music for their taste, as something that I tend to observe is that Spotify prioritizes music that can blend easily in a playlist, almost as to sound like it's from the same artist to a distracted ear. If you go to any of their instrumental playlists, especially the piano ones, you'll see what I mean. It became absurdly evident to me when Alexis Ffrench, who in my opinion is a very interesting composer at the piano, had his track "Once" from the "Classical Soul Vol.1" album explode in popularity on Spotify when compared to the rest of the album. It is a cute and delicate piece, but in my opinion it doesn't sound much like his voice, and I assume that he made it just so it could blend better in the official playlists, as really, if you compare the other tracks to the Spotify playlists, his album would definitely sound too "lively" and with more emotion and movement than what you could find, say, in the majority of the Peaceful Piano playlist. Either way, I like his album and I recommend it! I understand why Spotify would favor tracks that blend well together. Not only they need to be coherent in playlist order, but also in the shuffle mode! I suppose that most of the general public already has strong opinions on their music and why they listen to it, so I guess the fear of having someone change playlist as soon as something that is "out-of-the-box" plays makes sense. If you want to listen to a soft ballad you wouldn't expect something coming out of a heavy metal album to suddenly appear. However, this example being given, I do believe that there are soft tracks in metal bands catalogs, I myself am currently producing an album focused on metal aesthetic that features a quite melancholic and slow track. But let's be sincere, if someone unfamiliar with non-mainstream music sees a somewhat dark album cover, they would expect lots of distorted guitars and growling vocals...

Alright, I got way off-rail from the main purpose of this blog entry. Just to recap, I'm trying to release music more often on streaming platforms, and maybe I'll put it on Bandcamp as well. I'm mainly writing this post just to have something on my abandoned site, it's been months since I last updated it, I'm still in the process of figuring some things out, mainly how to do business as a generalist freelancer effectively in a way that fits my life. Well, that's about it, thank you for your time reading this!
